7 Entry-Level IT Programs for Beginners

These are some of the entry-level IT programs for people who want to venture into the IT field by acquiring the required basic skills in the information technology industry. Other IT programs such as business analyst, software engineer, among others, are also applicable entry-level skills for IT beginners.

Coding

Coding is an IT program that prepares you for tech jobs that require programming. It also gives you more opportunities in the field of information technology. Scratch is a coding programming language that equips you with the knowledge and skills to create interactive stories, animations and games targeted at children. With coding you’re well on your way to building your first app by learning how to apply hands-on foundational theory on a project. 

Python Automation

This program consists of two parts namely, Python Programming basics, and automating tasks with Python in AWS. Many tech companies are now automating repetitive tasks to enhance productivity in the workplace. Taking the Python automation program will equip you with the basic knowledge of AWS application program interface: API and Lambda. 

Certified Associate in Project Management 

This entry-level IT certification is offered by the Project Management Institute (PMI). The prerequisite for this program includes a bachelor’s degree in any field and basic knowledge of the project management process. The program equips you with skills in the fundamental processes, knowledge, and effective project management terminology. If you’re a PMI member it’ll cost you $225 to take the exam to certify as one, and $300 if you’re not a member.

Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) 

A Certified ScrumMaster is knowledgeable about the framework for developing agile. The ScrumMaster certification will help IT professionals develop practical rules and applications, which are needed to lead teams, product owners, and organisations through the development process. The program training also includes Scrum scope, and agile facilitation among others. Although there are no prerequisites to start this program, before you can affix the CSM certification tag to your resume, you have to be fully trained, and be knowledgeable about the practices and principles of the Scrum framework. Also, a certified ScrumMaster should be able to know when the most appropriate time is to use each of the IT methodologies and how to apply them. After you’re certified a ScrumMaster, you have to register to become a Scrum Alliance member. The cost of the Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) exam is $100. 

Certified Ethical Hacker 

This is an essential skill in the IT industry. A Certified Ethical Hacker is equipped with the necessary training to identify and search for vulnerabilities in computer systems. As a CEH professional, you can evaluate and mitigate against any vulnerability. The prerequisite to undertake this program is to be a legal adult and attend an Ethical Council (EC-Council) training program. You may also be required to have some experience in the information security domain. There is a $100usd fee to take the exam at the EC-Council.

IT Project Management 

This program provides you with the necessary comprehensive training in IT project management. It is designed for professionals who want to understand methodologies in the IT industry and when to apply them, including planning, implementing, and supporting IT projects. This program furnishes an advanced knowledge of IT programs, policies, and projects, as well as the information advances taking place in the IT industry. Practical exercises are usually provided during the program, which helps with gaining knowledge on how to budget, scope constraints, and mitigate time. 

Cisco Certified Technician (CCT)

This program trains you to diagnose, repair and restore any critical Cisco networking system devices. It also trains you to replace them (this process takes place at customer sites). The CCT program has two paths, namely routing and switching, and data center. For the CCT Data Center certification, training is geared towards individuals who want to work as IT field support engineers handling Cisco data center systems devices and software. To be certified in this path of CCT, one must take the course Supporting Cisco Data Center System Devices (DCTECH) v2.0 and pass the exam. The CCT Routing and Switching certification is designed for individuals seeking technical training for on-site maintenance and support of Cisco switches, routers, and operating environments working with Cisco Data Center Solutions. Before one is certified, an exam for the course Supporting Cisco Routing and Switching Network Devices (RSTECH) must be taken. It costs $300 to take the exam to qualify as a Cisco Certified Technician (CCT).
