For almost 20 years bloggers can utilize many income streams on their site, including advertising, selling products or hosting online and live events. Monetizing your blog has never been easier!

Advertising income

Along the lines of traditional publications revenue, advertising income is also a viable option online! To make money off your digital real estate, bloggers will sell banner ads by simply contacting companies directly. It is important to note the advertisements on your blog should be something your target audience would be interested in. If you offer a weekly newsletter, don’t forget there is prime advertising space going directly to your readers. This option pays off for blogs that have a decent amount of traffic.

Consumer-generated advertising

Consumer-generated advertising has become one of the more popular streams of income in the past couple of years. This is all those blog posts that say “sponsored content.” If your blog has a large following, companies can use your blog as a creative way to market their products or services to their specific target market. They will offer money for a blog post catered to their marketing campaign for the product or service. This form of income has become controversial due to lack of transparency, so make sure you always make it known that it is a sponsored post when you’re writing it. This income stream is popular among beauty and fashion bloggers.

Affiliate income

It is simple to do and you can make some serious income this way.Accomplished through affiliate marketing is an arrangement from an online retailer who will pay a commission for traffic or sales generated from referrals. These referrals come from ads posted on your blog that have a unique outgoing URL, with each click counting as a referral.

There are multiple ways to sign up for affiliate marketing, one of the easiest ways is to go directly to the company’s website and see what they offer. Another option is browsing through affiliate databases that list companies looking for blog space to advertise. This is a good option for blogs that have high daily traffic.


Offering webinars or online courses, as well as hosting live events, or meetups as they’re called in the blogosphere, is a great way to generate income. If you have expertise in a niche market, then this is a feasible option for you. Offering a paid webinar or course, where your readers have one-on-one access to you is a way to increase your revenue and it puts you on the fast track to becoming an influencer in your niche market. Business and marketing blogs are a perfect fit for webinars or online courses.

Hosting a live event or making an appearance at a live event, like blogger conferences, is a great way to increase your audience and to make some cash off your blog. You can make a commission off ticket sales or charge a guest speaker fee. Internet personalities or comedians tend to go this route.

Selling products and services

Selling a physical or digital product and or service is one of the quickest and direct ways you can monetize your blog. Products can include books, merchandise or teaching material, and digital products, including e-books, apps, and software. This is a popular option for food bloggers, who can sell their collection of recipes in a book or though an app. Business bloggers can also sell their services to companies by becoming a contract consultant.
