Ted Talks

Whether it’s for motivation, ideas or something fun, TED Talks have inspired millions around the world. From mental health to taking action to appreciating nature their library of videos can help you take the next steps in your life to a better you.

Here are five of the best TED Talks that will revamp your life!

1. Simon Sinek: How Great Leaders Inspire Action

Originally recorded in Washington in 2009, Simon Sinek’s, How Great Leaders Inspire Action, is a must-watch for every Edge leader. Sinek’s, now famous, Golden Circle, is a powerful tool in learning how to lead and inspire action. Using three statements: Why, How and What, placed in each layer of the Golden Circle, Sinek laments, that you must know Why you’re doing what you’re doing before you know How and What. Please note that making a profit isn’t going to cut it. Sinek says that is a result, and Why is about purpose and belief. Using real life examples, like the Wright Brothers and Martin Luther King, he discusses the importance in believing in what you do, how you do it, and the importance of selling the Why first. This taps into the emotions of the consumer or client, and that emotional selling point is what inspires people into action. Watching this TED Talk will help you inspire and build your team to achieve greatness like no other!

2. Shawn Achor: The Happy Secret to Better Work

Happiness researcher, Shawn Achor, knows the secret to increasing productivity levels, output, and results, and he shared it with the world in this TED Talk. Through humor and research, Achor discovered that the usual formula for happiness – work hard, achieve goals, then feel content and happy— is backwards. He states that to reach our full potential and work hard we must begin with happiness. He shares the science behind it by explaining that dopamine doesn’t just make us happy; it also “turns on all of the learning centres in our brain allowing us to adapt to the world in a different way.” In using the tools he outlines in the video, you can transform your happiness levels in just 21 days and work at your full potential!

3. Brene Brown: The Power of Vulnerability

One of the most watched TED Talk videos in the world, Brene Brown’s The Power of Vulnerability, teaches the power in feeling shame and vulnerability. During Brown’s six years of research, she found that people with a strong sense of love and belonging have it only because they understand the fundamentality of feeling vulnerable. Putting yourself out there for a new venture or a higher position will help you understand yourself more and will help you believe that you are worthy of everything you’ve worked for. Brown’s TED Talk inspires, even the most demure of us, to embrace our vulnerability for a better life filled with love and belonging.

4. Louis Schwartzberg: Nature. Beauty. Gratitude.

In this TED Talk, time lapse photographer, Louis Schwartzberg, reminds us to stop and smell the roses. For over 30 years he has been taking time lapse photographs of flowers and nature. Through his work, he has discovered how connected we are to nature and how it can cultivate appreciation and gratitude. Through two stories of nature, provided by a child and an adult, Schwartzberg teaches about the giving qualities of nature as well as the interconnected relationship humans have with it. This TED Talk will make you take a break from your computer screen and enjoy everything that nature has to offer.

5. Matt Cuts: Try Something New for 30 Days

Matt Cutts, self-proclaimed computer nerd, offers a challenge to viewers: try something new for the next 30 days. He took on this very task, and took a photo everyday for 30 days. Cutts noticed that this deliberate act of trying something new changed his mindset; it made him more mindful and gave him more confidence. Not only does this experiment allow you to gain a skill, but it will allow you to experience something outside of your everyday life, giving you a true revamp on your current state of affairs. So, as Cutts asks in the video, what are you waiting for?
