With Mother’s Day fast approaching, many of us dread having to wander a shopping centre for hours in search of the perfect gift. Although Mom is certainly worth the effort, there are other options to make shopping less tedious. With some out-of-the-box thinking, you can make your mother’s 2018 gift as unique and memorable as she is.
Let’s say you want to give your mother something handmade and personal, but you’re lacking in artistic skill. There are several e-commerce websites you can browse to find the perfect handcrafted item for her. The most popular, Etsy, connects millions of buyers with some of the most creative independent craftspeople in North America. You can find anything from personalized picture frames to breathtaking floral arrangements to makeup and cosmetics. These kinds of gifts will make your mother nostalgic for the days when you’d bring home personally-made items from school. Now, we’re not suggesting you pass it off as your own, but if your mother asks whether you personally made her gift, feel free to keep your answer vague.
Turn Mother’s Day into a monthly event by purchasing a subscription for monthly deliveries right to your mom’s door. The type of deliveries depends on her preference. The safe choice would be Birchbox, a monthly package of health and beauty products consisting of makeup, haircare, skincare, and fragrance samples. Alternatively, if your mother is a homebody who prefers a good book, Cozy Reader Club is the way to go. Cozy Reader Club sends a monthly shipment of 4-6 items including a new novel in women’s fiction, artisan beverages (coffee, tea, or hot chocolate), handmade items, and gourmet treats. If neither of these are to your mom’s liking, just search the internet for a subscription box that suits her. It’s a gift that truly keeps on giving.
Video on Demand Service
Almost everyone (and their mother) has a subscription to at least one video on demand service. Whether it’s Netflix, Hulu Plus, or Amazon Video, if your mother doesn’t have one of them, any would be the place to start. But if your mom already has a subscription, what about adding a complimentary subscription for something in her interests? One example is Acorn TV, which features classic British film and television; another is DramaFever, which specializes in Korean dramas but, over the years, has also acquired a large selection of Latin American soaps. There are plenty of other options for whatever genre of movies and TV she might enjoy.
She spent the first few years of your life pampering you, so why not return the favour, at least for a day? Treat your mom like the queen that she is by making her breakfast at home, cleaning the house, and/or running errands for her. The goal is to make her life easier, even if for one day. If you’re too lazy to lift a finger that day, take your mom to a spa for a few hours of relaxation or let her enjoy a shopping spree on you.
